Flooring in Scarborough

Mostly built from 1961 to 1990 (52.2% of dwellings): detached houses (37.2%), apartment towers (35.2%) and row houses (9.6%). Older pre-1961 pockets sit along the Bluffs, and a newer condo cluster has grown around Scarborough Centre.

What changes the job in Scarborough

  • Detached houses are the largest housing type (37.2% of dwellings), and secondary suites show up in census data as apartments in a duplex (7.3%), so below-grade floors come up often.
  • The condo share is lower than North York's: about 23% of Scarborough dwellings are condominiums (18.2% owned, 4.9% rented) against about 32% in the North York Community Council area.
  • Birchcliffe-Cliffside on the Bluffs has 57.2% of dwellings built in 1960 or before, while Malvern West and Malvern East have about two-thirds built from 1961 to 1990, so subfloor prep differs by area.
  • Row houses make up 9.6% of dwellings: townhouse jobs often include stair treads and nosings.
